RADelaide's DIS//CORD Return with Technical Metalcore Jam 'We Were Prettier in the Beginning'
There's a reason Adelaide/Mount Gambier metalcore upcomers DIS//CORD ended up in our 30 Indie Aussie Core Sick List and today we have another prime example of the quality of musicianship they've been producing since we unearthed them.
Following on from the release of previous single 'Another Victim To The Ocean' the boys have dropped their latest technical number 'We Were Prettier in the Beginning' and the title isn't the only soul crushing thing about the track. Kicking off with a single guitar, it's not long before a captivating spoken word intro guides us up to the first crushing section as the rest of the band joins in. Throughout the next four-and-a-half minutes, the tango between melodic cleans and heavy screams hark back to early In Hearts Wake with plenty of technical solos to please the harshest of critics. As the song builds momentum, we're lead to an EPIC breakdown section that combines chuggy riffs, bellowing gutturals and a cheeky blegh! for good measure.
Considering this is only the band's fourth single, they're proving that you can release quality over quantity and still remain relevant in an oversaturated metalcore scene.
On the new song, the band shares with us:
"'We Were Prettier in the Beginning' is essentially about how the only one single constant in life is change, and no matter how much life can bear its weight on you and drain the colour from your day, there is always a way out through the grey monotony. Don't let the little things build up and overwhelm you because at the end of the day, this moment will pass you by just like every other. Funnily enough, the majority of the lyrics were originally written and inspired by a single meme I saw on Facebook. I know I have it saved somewhere on my phone!"
No matter where you get inspiration from, so long as the message rings true, you'll stand out from the rest.
Hopefully this is the start of a very exciting year for DIS//CORD. Either way, we'll be cheering from the side lines like a soccer Mum on a Saturday morning!
