Bullet For My Valentine have been revving us up recently, teasing us on socials about a week ago with their new fan club Army of Noise via Patreon which we thought might have been their big news. Fortunately, there is big news that's finally arrived, and it's in the form of an album announcement and new music which we were all secretly hoping for ahead of their Download Pilot headliner this weekend in the UK.

The Welsh legends have released 'Knives' to delight our #NewMusicFriday palates, and we're pleased to share that she's a ripper. Of course, it's the gift that keeps on giving as the band have also announced their self-titled seventh studio album coming out on October 22 via Spinefarm / Search & Destroy

It's been exactly three years since Gravity was released and it was a good album, but fans always get a little nervous ahead of Bullet For My Valentine taking on a new musical chapter, as their extensive back catalogue has built a certain fanbase with specific tastes. Well, like we said we think you're going to like this one, judging by comments from the band already - it could just be their heaviest album to date:

"I think it's the most ferocious side of Bullet For My Valentine that I've ever known. it's time for us to put out a really angry, heavy, aggressive record. I just can't wait to grimace on stage!" - Michael "Padge" Paget

"I wanted to come out guns blazing, fucking middle fingers flying, and just go for the throat. I think this is a far more aggressive, intense part of Bullet For My Valentine. It's always been there. I've just never opened the floodgates on it. I want to take people's heads off in a metaphorical way." - Matt Tuck

In regards to 'Knives', it sets the tone in a pretty awesome way. Signature drums commence as many Bullet songs do, with vocalist Matt Tuck unleashing an introductory roar which is a good sign of things to come. Thrashy riffs evoke excitement as Tuck steadies into a mountainous metallic verse with interludes of his clean-vocals. The chorus is absolutely guttural as it cuts in and out of a rhythm of cleans. 'Knives' is pretty experimental in a way, it takes on many of Bullet's proven recipe, however it also explicitly addresses the obvious desire for 'heavy' tunes from fans, and the parent musicians are appeasing this which is awesome. Look out for a tasty little crescendo at the end too, always worth that head-banging crunch to savour.
