Bring Me The Horizon discuss amo's 'heavy metal' song and their heavy medley "possibly" happening in Australia

Possibly one of the biggest talking points towards the end of 2018 was Bring Me The Horizon playing some of their older, heavier songs in a medley at shows throughout their UK tour, which at first started as a joke on frontman Oli Sykes' birthday but later created global headlines.

Wall of Sound fans/readers went NUTS over this news with many wondering if they'll do something similar on their upcoming First Love Tour in April, so, we went straight to the source and asked drummer Mat Nicholls on this week's episode of Wall of Sound: Up Against The Wall what the chances were of the band bringing it down under, to which he replied:

"Possibly, yeah... It was just like, something we just thought would be funny and then it turned out people buzzed off it. So we just went 'alright we'll keep playing it, we'll keep playing it'. So I think, don't hold me to it, no promises or anything but it might happen. But we might change it up... there's that many songs and stuff we can chop and change it in little bits but umm, we'll see."

"I'm not promising anything, but we'll see..."

Read what you will about that last part, but if he's talking about changing things up, surely there's been talk of at least bringing it back again for international audiences right? Right?

The medley certainly raised a few eyebrows for old school fans who have been openly criticising the band's departure from the heavier side of music, in favour of their newer, stadium/pop rock influences, but BMTH will have the last laugh with one particular song on their new album called 'heavy metal' which (like Parkway Drive, Hellions and Trophy Eyes have done in the past) takes aim directly at the haters with two big middle fingers in the air.

The song which features the lyrics "all I wanna know do you love me anymore/cuz some kid on the gram said he used to be a fan but this shit ain't heavy metal" addresses the cyber abuse they've copped over the years and, in a tongue-in-cheek way, showcases just how many fucks they give about it all. We hit Mat up to find out more about the song which he laughed and responded with:

"It was just a bit of a piss-take... Just letting everyone saying 'aw Bring Me The Horizon aren't heavy metal anymore', we're just saying who gives a fuck? Who cares if we're not heavy metal anymore because we don't, we certainly don't give a shit... there's plenty of fucking metal bands out there, so just go and listen to some of them I suppose."
