With the current influx of heavy and alternative tunes flooding the internet, it's hard to keep up at times - especially when there's secret workings happening behind the scenes at WoS HQ that we'll discuss in due course.Instead of letting them float into the ether, we're dishing out a quickfire recap on 5 Killer Tracks you may have missed from the week that was, starting with...

#1 - Strange Fiction - 'Gnarly Star'

The Brisbane band of misfits who sound like Every Time I Die reincarnated dropped their first taste of new music in almost two years. 'GnarlyStar' wastes no time picking up momentum as frontman Grant McMillan invokes his best KeithBuckley impersonations while disjointed guitars and a gnarly southern rock/metal soundtrack guide him to pleasure town.

#2 - Poppy - 'New Way Out'

Fresh from the release of latest album Zig last year, the popster is back and she's teaming up with JordanFish and StephenHarrison (House of Protection - more on that in a sec) for her latest alt-rock release 'NewWayOut'. The guitars and looming synth create an intense listening experience as Poppy belts out her best vocal delivery - akin to that of Conquer Divide.Something tells us Poppy won't be slowing down any time soon as she continues to dominate the heavy/alternative music scene.

#3 - House of Protection - 'Learn to Forget'

After bursting onto the scene with their addictive debut single 'It's Supposed To Hurt', the dynamic duo consisting of StephenHarrison and AricImprota (ex-Fever 333 members) once again team up with JordanFish on production duties for the ferociously hard and heavy follow up 'Learn To Forget'.Featuring an alluring and bouncy chorus that'll result in you singing along in no time finds the House of Protection team utilising skills they've picked up in the industry to hone in on a fresh approach to melodic hardcore that'll offer 'core fans a breath of fresh air from the oversaturated metalcore landscape. They're not only ones to watch, they'll shoot up the ranks in no time after signing with Red Bull Records.

#4 - Daybreak - 'No One's Coming'

The last time we heard from Perth's Daybreak was back in 2021 when they released the single 'Fracture'. Now the band are back with the first offering from their upcoming debut album The Sound - set for release on September 6th.Following the trend of combining electronic synth and drum & bass beats, it's not long until the heaviness is turned up to 11 and we're smashed in the face by a ravecore beast of a track that finds the group on a similar level as Darko (US). If this is a taste of what's to come, consider us plugged in.
