Oceans Ate Alaska Unveil New Vocalist & Song ‘Endless Hollow’ Amidst Controversy with Ex-Singer

This year has already been off the charts for metalcore. Collaborations, farewells and most importantly, comebacks with one of the most anticipated being the return of Oceans Ate Alaska.

The British powerhouses are back with an absolute ripper of a single ‘Endless Hollow’ and a new frontman – more on that soon – but it’s come with a touch of controversy involving their old singer.

Ex-vocalist James Harrison who left the band in 2017 before rejoining in 2021, has shared a statement regarding the group, citing alleged internal issues such as “business malpractice” and “toxic masculinity” as his reasons for departing again.

In a lengthy social post, James further spilled the beans on the difficulties that came with being part of Oceans Ate Alaska, including sacrifices he made just in order to tour. He also states long-term lead guitarist/backing vocalist Adam Zytkiewicz has also left.

To be fair, there’s A LOT to unpack so we recommend reading his entire statement before continuing on…

As James shifts focus to his new band LiveALie, the attention turns to Oceans Ate Alaska‘s latest member. Taking over is former Silent Screams frontman Joel Haywood who makes his debut on ‘Endless Hollow‘, stepping up to the plate swinging in the process. The effortless switching from chugging guitars and machine-gun-like drums to melodic and full chorus has the band working overtime. It’s prog-metalcore with tasty gutturals at its finest.

The now four-piece released their own statement on the current situation revealing:

Most of you have already guessed it, but we would like to give Joel the biggest and warmest welcome possible! ✌🏻 Joel is a great friend of the band, an incredibly talented and hardworking vocalist, and will be joining Oceans full time from here on out!

Parting ways with James, Adam, and also Fearless Records was a very tough decision to make, but we hope this change has the most positive outcome possible for past and present members. Despite what some people may think, we have nothing but love for James and Adam! We wish them both happiness, health and good luck in their future endeavours. We will always appreciate all of the hard work they put into OAA over the years!

These changes and new single come as the band prepares to join Currents on their upcoming EU/UK tour.

We’ll keep you posted on how this all turns out.
