Who doesn't love their pop punk with a bit of core influences? It's like a spicy drop of hot sauce that gives your fav snack a bonus boost of adrenaline and we're stoked to introduce you to Melbourne upcomers From The Other Side who combine their pop punk roots with a touch of new-age core, and the end result will have you in awe.

The band just dropped their brand new song 'Toxic Heart' which harks back to the riff-driven anthems of the mid-2000s with bands like My Chemical Romance, Atreyu and Sum 41 coming to mind before vocalist Rose Blyth guiding us in with her rock-filled delivery that captivates your attention from start to finish. The harmonies are really tight and are a big standout for this old-school pop punk snob!

Now they've caught our attention, we had to dive deeper into the band's motivation, future plans and how they're aiming to stand out amongst the crowd of Australia's ever-growing pop punk community.

Welcome to Wall of Sound! Before we dive into your new track, give us a rundown of how the band came to be?

Thanks for the welcome! We are stoked to be here. Soooo…. Super long story, short. It was really just perfect timing, some of us were in bands we weren’t feeling. Some of us haven’t played in bands in years and some not at all. We kind of just all found each other at the right time! And the rest as they say is history…… or something like that?

'Toxic Heart' is the track we're checking out today - instantly when you hit play, Sum 41 and My Chem come to mind, but then it combines some heavier/hardcore elements towards the end. Who would you say are your biggest inspiration music-wise that helped shape your sound?

Blink 182 was the first love, for most of us. They paved the way into the genre. The inspiration has since grown though, so to name a short few. My Chem, Sum 41, Yellowcard, Escape the Fate, Falling in Reverse, Parkway Drive and Bullet for my Valentine.

It’s probably important to note as well that our producer is Chris Thelmelco (Monolith Studios/ Orpheus Omega) and his influence has somewhat shaped our sound as well.

And without pointing the obvious out - who or what inspired this number's conception?

When we first started writing it (Toxic Heart) we noticed straight away it was going to be heavier than what we normally do. So, we carried on making the lyrics a bit darker. Lyrically it’s a bit of a middle finger to the toxic people in your life, who can’t be happy for your success. The people who want to drag you down.

Aussie pop punk is on fire with a stack of acts dominating at the moment - what are you doing to stand out from the crowd?

Tell us about it!!! We can’t believe some of the music circulating right now. It’s a sick time to be a music fan. I think for us now it's experimenting with our sound and trying to create something that feels familiar yet a bit different and fresh at the same time.

Would you say this approach is your signature sound, or do you have more material on the way that expands on other influences?

haha we constantly joke about playing jump rope with our sound, but I think that’s kind of our thing and we have accepted it. So yeah, there are going to be other songs that sound a lot like this one, but following it could be completely different.

We love following the journey of new/upcoming bands - so what are three goals you have that you'd love to achieve over the next year?

Ohhhhh good question!

1. We’d really love to play with a couple of local bands who we are fans of.
2. Headline some shows locally.
3. And thinking big but we’d love to tour nationally and meet more of our Aussie counterparts.

When can we catch you in a live setting?

We have a show booked at Hawthorne Hotel in Hawthorne, Melb on the 21st of July [tickets here] where we will be unveiling our new guitarist, Giac. So super excited to get back out there.

After that, we start working with Coach Cannatelli to really make our live shows as best as they can. So, after that expect to see us a fair bit in Melbourne.

Final thoughts for new fans?

If you’re a fan of pop-punk and hardcore, please check us out. We have big plans for more new music this year and some awesome shows we’d love to see people at, bring ya mum and ya grandma. We don’t bite.
