The Beautiful Monument are well and truly in a new era. 'Hellbound' showed that the band could broaden their alternative music skills beyond their previous work. That is reflected with another catchy new single, 'Misery'. Let's run through this track.

I love the electronic intro and how the compliment of instruments helps to set a scene before Lizi Blanco takes to the mic. I think of tracks like 'Stay' that use a familiar formula winner. The shifts in vocal styles between the verses and chorus are exceptional, and I loved how Amy McIntosh's bass playing has come through in the mix. Adam Pinzone's drums punctuate the post-chorus breakdown, alongside fantastic guitar work by Alex Manhire and Andrea Skoumbris (who has since left the band but is credited on this track). Lizi's isolated vocals were a nice touch to finish this single too!

"Misery is a theme song for those who are completely oblivious to their one-sided relationships. It is the painful reality of a profound sense of loneliness that an individual begins experiencing when their ‘perfect relationship’ begins to crumble and their metaphorical see-saw starts tipping. I wrote this song as an onlooker about a person I know who is very obviously blinded by their warp ed view of ‘love’. Originally my heart broke for them, but there’s only so many times a person can ignore the warning signs before your words turn into mumbled sounds of nothing." says Lizi Blanco.

She adds, "People don’t always just say things to start fights or belittle you, most times they’re genuinely concerned for your happiness and want to make sure that you’re doing what’s right for you, not just what ‘societal norms’ expect of you."

I've been super stoked to check out more new tunes from The Beautiful Monument since I fell in love with them just before the Knight and Day Festival, and I'm happy to say 'Misery' is an exemplary single. Once again, The Beautiful Monument continue to set the bar higher with their exploration and take on the alternative rock genre, leaving me yearning for more.
