The heat is certainly getting turned up in the Foo Fighters kitchen. Last month, the legendary rock band marked their return to audiophiles' ears with 'Rescued'. Simultaneously, they announced their new album But Here We Are, out June 2. Then ten-track record will be the first without late-drummer Taylor Hawkins which is obviously incredibly emotional for both the band and the fans, following the celebration shows late last year.
A second single has now been released off the upcoming record, titled 'Under You'. With a question mark as to where the drums have come from on both singles (and the whole LP), rumours have started to emerge about session drummer Josh Freese. The Southern Californian musician has worked with dozens of bands, notably The Offspring and Rob Zombie.
Until we find out more on the drummer, all that's left is to lap up the new Foo Fighters track and praise their return. 'Under You' continues down the lyrical path of grieving, with visceral vocals shed by Dave Grohl. Musically, the track contains remnants of the band's In Your Honour era from back in 2015. When setting aside the extreme sadness these songs represent, collectively they both mark a really strong return from the U.S. stalwarts.
Ahead of the release But Here We Are, Foo Fighters are playing a free global livestream this Sunday, May 21 (which may be Monday depending where you live), with new songs being played and apparently a few surprises too. The stream will happen at 5am AEST. exclusively on Veeps.
