Alera Drop Two-Track Concept ‘we will never know // why flowers grow through cracks in the pavement’
Melbourne metalcore band Alera had begun a new era when we caught up with them last, and today that phase has continued with two new songs titled ‘we will never know‘ and ‘why flowers grow through cracks in the pavement‘.
Long titles aside combining both form the overall title of this two-track, we will never know why flowers grow through cracks in the pavement. Seamless transition between songs allows this release to be enjoyed as a singular piece, creating a concept that could allow each song to stand on its own or together.
A distorted drum intro launches the listener into harsh screams to begin ‘we will never know‘. The pleading and questioning tone is clear from the vocals alongside some chunky riffs and hard-hitting beats. The screams of the titular line are so damn powerful, this track is short and sweet and deserves to be played loud. The melodic transition provides some calm vibes before we hit the next half of this release.
Melodies continue before we get a nice and consistent rhythm of metalcore from Alera on ‘why flowers grow through cracks in the pavement‘. I love how this track features some fantastic cleans as well, as well as the sense of scale I gained from my first listen onwards. A very chill outro concludes this release, and I just had to go and give it all a listen a few more times.
Alera’s future looks bright, and this is a testament to the scale and power they can bring to metalcore. All of the signature beats of the genre are touched upon but enhanced through prowess and professional musicianship, in addition to unique elements and a profound sense of scale. Each song stands on its own but the full power of this release is in a single-piece listen. Don’t sleep on these guys.
