Our little boys What Lies Below are growing up too fast. It feels like yesterday where they were premiering 2022 singles 'Odyssey' and 'Vitiate' - I guess it was just last year. Nonetheless, these two singles were so remarkable that, that the metalcore scene is now paying attention, and it's about time, damn it!
The Pennsylvanian group have stepped it up once again on their first release of 2023 called 'bound.' and we know that our job is to tell you how it sounds, but we're lost for words - not the most ideal paradox, huh? Okay, maybe we'll try.
Vocalist Andrew Watson has levelled up his vocals on 'bound.' with the rest of the band stepping into an even more progressive zone with hypermixed elements, reminiscent of modern Northlane elements. The breakdowns are gorgeously tight and are well-infused into the track instead of spotlighted like so many of their peers are doing. You're not ready for the virtuosic delivery with this one.
