Do you love scary movies?

Well, you’re in for a treat when the sixth instalment of the Scream franchise lands in cinemas in March and the official trailer has just dropped, featuring a new look for our good ol’ antagonist Ghostface, who has left the sleepy country town of Woodsboro in favour of stalking survivors from previous entries in the series in New York City.

The trailer finds our tortured victims facing off against a killer ‘unlike any before’ and with the help of some exceptional editing, it manages to actually bring back some of the chills experienced when seeing the next instalment for the first time. Plus, it’s going to be a bloodbath from what we did see!

Synopsis: Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter. In Scream VI, Melissa Barrera (“Sam Carpenter”), Jasmin Savoy Brown (“Mindy Meeks-Martin”), Mason Gooding (“Chad Meeks-Martin”), Jenna Ortega (“Tara Carpenter”), Hayden Panettiere (“Kirby Reed”) and Courteney Cox (“Gale Weathers”) return to their roles in the franchise alongside Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, and Samara Weaving.

Fans of this meta, self-aware slasher would know each movie is aware of its own existence (meaning it doesn’t hide the fact it’s a horror/thriller movie and points out references to itself and other franchises throughout) and having this movie set in New York City, it tips the hat to others that took place away from the origins of the original’s location – in this case Friday The 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhatten.

Entertainment Weekly scored the exclusive first look at the film which features a menacing Ghostface mid-slash and the highly anticipated return of actress Hayden Panettiere (aka Kirby Reed Scream 4), whose horror-obsessed character succumbed to the end of the knife during the climax of the 2011 sequel.

Breaking down the trailer, the scooby squad come across a killer’s shrine, complete with outfits and memorabilia from the entire Scream series (including Tatum’s clothes from Scream 1, and the masks used during Sidney’s drama performance at college in Scream 2). It’s a treasure chest of easter eggs that’s going to have fans pausing and snooping around frame by frame to try and put the pieces together early… like we always do.

Who will survive the final cut and how will this film lead into the supposed climax of the franchise in Scream 7? Time will tell, until then, get keen for the upcoming release by checking out the trailer below!
