It's no secret that we at Wall of Sound LOVE horror movies... and with music/movie worlds colliding in recent years - Ice Nine Kills (The Silver Scream 1 and 2), The Retaliators (starring Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach, Five Finger Death Punch and Spencer Charnas of INK), and Halloween Kills (revisit our interview with franchise creator/director and composer John Carpenter) - we have to keep the train moving, especially when one of the greatest slasher franchises is returning for its sixth outing in 2023.
Overnight, the first teaser trailer for Scream 6 dropped and from all accounts, it's set to be the series' bloodiest outing yet according to cast and crew alike.
Like most horror franchises, this film sees the plot take place outside the fictional country town of Woodsboro, where Ghostface has been cutting their way through victims for the past 26 years. This time around, New York City will be splattered in blood where the focus is on survivors of the previously released sequel Scream 4 (2011), and the most recent smash hit requel Scream (2022), which dropped back in January and scored worldwide praise for continuing the legacy left behind by the greatest horror/thriller director of our generation, the late Wes Craven.
Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter. In Scream VI, Melissa Barrera (“Sam Carpenter”), Jasmin Savoy Brown (“Mindy Meeks-Martin”), Mason Gooding (“Chad Meeks-Martin”), Jenna Ortega (“Tara Carpenter”), Hayden Panettiere (“Kirby Reed”) and Courteney Cox (“Gale Weathers”) return to their roles in the franchise alongside Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, and Samara Weaving.
Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and TylerGillett (2022's Scream and 2019's Ready or Not), the film also features the return of fan favourite character KirbyReed (played HaydenPanettiere), whose survival from Scream 4 was teased in the latest instalment - much to the approval of fanatics alike (myself included).
For the ill-informed, this flick doesn't centre around the OG final girl Sidney Prescott (played by Neve Campbell), so it'll be interesting to see where they go without her inclusion, but from all accounts, she is set to return in Scream 7 with a much larger role.
Time will tell who survives the final cut (and opening scene kill), but if you live and breathe this franchise, it won't matter so long as there's carnage candy galore. Watch the teaser below and get scared.
