Introducing: Dutch Deathcore Outfit Distant with Upcoming Record Heritage

Editor-in-Chief Paul ‘Browny’ Brown refers to me as the Deathcore Connoisseur and whilst I appreciate the gesture, I’m not sure I quite live up to the name. However, I do want to share a band I’ve been watching for quite some time and you might’ve even spun a couple of their tunes already.

Self-described as “down-tempo/deathcore“, you just know that Distant are going to be heavy. Reigning from Rotterdam in the Netherlands, the Dutchmen already have quite the back catalogue behind them. It’s so great to see such high-quality deathcore emerging from this corner of Europe – my mind goes to CABAL from Denmark too.

From their debut EP Tsukuyomi in 2017, the five-piece kept growing with 2019 record Tyrannotophia and then 2020 sophomore EP Dawn of Corruption. Exploring new sounds, these guys kept going and became disgustingly heavy with 2021 LP Aeons of Oblivion which had a LOT of awesome features, including our very own Lochie Keogh from Alpha Wolf on ‘Cryogenesis‘.

Having made quite a name for themselves in the deathcore community, Distant have now ventured into their next era and have dropped a series of singles this year, including ‘Cursed‘, ‘Exofilth‘ and ‘Human Scum‘ which are all demanding the attention of the heavy music world. Fast-forward to today and we’ve now been gifted a fourth single titled ‘Orphan of Blight‘. The track is ominous and includes the symphonic elements we’re hearing in the frontrunners like Lorna Shore. The brutality in this track will pick you up and throw you against the wall.

Distant have shared that these four masterpieces will form their third studio record Heritage, due for release via Century Media Records on 10 February, 2023. Go catch up on this wild back catalogue and get ready for the new era from Distant. The record will include twelve tracks, with one track featuring Lorna Shore‘s Will Ramos and another featuring just about the entire deathcore scene – see more below.
