Yours Truly Overcome Self-Doubt on ‘Careless Kind’

After an onslaught of overseas appearances in the UK and Europe, Aussie pop punkers Yours Truly are back on homesoil just in time for their new EP, is this what I look like? being released next Friday, July 15. Ahead of the EP’s drop is a brand new edgy little number titled ‘Careless Kind‘. It marks the four piece’s continuation into darker, rockier territory like what we heard on ‘Walk On My Grave‘ and more recently ‘Hallucinations‘.

Honestly, one listen here and you’ll notice its close resemblance to much of Yours Truly’s previous efforts on their debut, Self Care. ‘Careless Kind’ talks about our battle with our own inner anxieties and self-doubt, vocalist Mikaila Delgado sharing:

I wrote Careless Kind after talking to a friend about my anxieties and listening to how chill they were about everything. I remember thinking, ‘I wish I could be like them, see things in black and white and not overthink absolutely everything.’ It tackles a lot of my health and social anxiety and how I feel like it constantly takes over my ability to be carefree because I’m always thinking ‘what if?’. Everything down to the scars on my ankles from an operation I had when I was young, which was where a lot of my self-consciousness began. It’s wishing I could reset my thoughts and remove the anxiety.”

Throughout all those scars we wear on our bodies (and in our minds) though, ‘Careless Kind‘ pushes the band’s talents into grittier territory, all whilst keeping that punchy pop punk edge about them. It’s a sound that’s keeping us on our toes for what Yours Truly have up their sleeves next, and who doesn’t love surprises?!
