Did you see this coming? Because I definitely didn’t. Sydney pop/rock outfit Yours Truly have turned the tables on us and unleashed their darker selves in their brand new track ‘Walk On My Grave’ and just, wow. I love this new side even more. Seemingly inspired by a sound previously polished by fellow Aussies Tonight Alive and US trio Against the Current, this song is punchier and edgier than anything the band have ever done before, blending poppier hooks with gritty, powerful riffs and the video kinda captures that new dark edginess perfectly.
Vocalist Mikaila Delgado shares the premise behind their new single:
“I always imagined it to be set in ‘hell’, along the lines of the idea that sometimes you can be stuck in your own head that feels like a hell you can’t escape. I had the idea of using red velvet throughout it because it’s got a very uncomfortable, dark looking vibe to it. I wanted to purvey the mood that I was carrying though uncomfortable imagery like the fabrics and set pieces, body movements and contorted camera angles.
We want to tell a visual story and we want to represent this kind of new music and era we’re stepping into. We don’t want to be rocking up in jeans and t-shirts anymore.”
I love a band who are always looking at how they can progress further musically, and I think Yours Truly have set themselves up on right path to do exactly that. ‘Walk On My Grave’ is only the beginning of this band’s forthcoming new era, and I don’t know about you but I’m literally on the edge of my seat to hear what else they’ve got up their sleeves next!
