Soilwork Undergoes Melodic Adventure with 'Nous Sommes la Guerre'

Gothenburg is known for a lot; personally I've witnessed its architectural landscape, wholesome park free zoo (featuring Elk) as well as stunning Archipelago islands. Of course, what drew me to the Swedish city was not primarily these factors but rather its origins in melodic death metal. We've had a big week with In Flames releasing new single 'State Of Slow Decay' with its rooted sounds surprising and exciting reeling fans who are still reeling from it (not to mention the pending album release from The Halo Effect).

Only days later, their former-melodeath peers Soilwork have also released a new single. A month ago Björn 'Speed' Strid and the band announced their twelfth studio record Övergivenheten, out August 19, 2022 via Nuclear Blast, plus an Australian tour too. The follow-up album to Verkligheten includes their lead single / title-track which really set the standard.

Now, the Swedes have shared second song 'Nous Sommes la Guerre' from the album, which translates to 'We Are War' in English, also spanning a decent length like 'Övergivenheten'. The six-minute track continues to accentuate Strid's clean vocal effort, across a progressive pendulum of riffs and calmer tones. With Strid picking up the ante in the mid-section, the band prepares for an instrumental bridge before rebalancing to that new-age Opeth stylised progressive sound that they've picked up. Unlike In Flames' recent resurgence, Soilwork appear to be relishing their more contemporary emotive direction than peering back into the archives. Check it out below and see if it's up your alley.
