Look, we didn’t want to start the week on a sad note but this one is going to hurt a few of you…
Spiritbox have announced via social media they’ve mutually parted ways with long term bassist Bill Crook. The news comes eight months after the release of their debut album Eternal Blue, which set the band up for huge promise across the globe. While no further information has been given about the departure, the band stated there were “no hard feelings” involved.

However, with the band’s upcoming US Tour alongside Ghost and Mastodon, they’ve revealed they have enlisted the help of ex-As I Lay Dying/Wovenwar bassist Josh Gilbert to fill in for their upcoming shows. Josh also announced his departure from AILD last week after 15 years with the metalcore outfit. It’s unclear if Josh left for Spiritbox, but considering he left a band that took up half of his life, we can only expect good things to come from this move. Time will tell if his position becomes more permanent and we’ll keep you updated as soon as we hear more.
Back in September, frontwoman Courtney LaPlante spoke to Wall of Sound in our Virtual Hangs series about the confusion surrounding drummer Zev Rose and his place within Spiritbox, which was often questioned by fans, as he didn’t appear in their earlier promo photos. She candidly joked:
“He is 12 years younger than me, and 15 years younger than Bill [Crook] so there’s like a huge age gap and we wanted to take the time, and I feel like we deserve the right to take our time, to know him and I think that anyone that’s creating a band, especially a band that is generating your income for you to live and support yourself should not just will-nilly let people in, you have to be a little bit defensive of that stuff.”
Let’s hope the band make their way to Australia in tact, especially since their ill-fated trip down under in April didn’t work out!
