Wall of Sound presents: “2020 YEAR IN REVIEW” – by Wall of Sound Loyal Reader Jackson Allen

In the 5 years WoS has been around for, we’ve not only grown as a site. but we’ve also grown as a family, community and each year we see new faces pop up and get involved with what we have to say and talk about… One of those new faces is Jackson Allen!

A mad keen heavy music fan from Perth who isn’t afraid to say what he thinks, he’s got good taste in tunes and isn’t too bad a meme lording these days. We HAD to ask him to jump in with our 2020 Year in Review and this is what he’s got for you…

 TOP 5 SONGS OF 2020?

4. Vilify – ‘Habit’
3. Polaris – ‘Landmine’

1. The Gloom in the Corner – ‘Warfare’

BEST MUSIC VIDEO OF 2020?

The Gloom in the Corner – ‘Requiem’.

The graphic novel theme was clever and well done on its own. But this track was the last in a long multi-release storyline that has been a much needed distraction (obsession?) of mine, particularly this year. This was the perfect way to end it.

LAST GIG YOU SAW BEFORE COVID

Polaris / Wage War / Alpha Wolf. Honestly, if I’d known Covid was going to happen and had to pick – it would have been that gig. The memory of being right on that barrier screaming Landmine has kept me going this year. And no, I didn’t forget Crystal Lake – they couldn’t make it over to Perth.

BIGGEST THING YOU LEARNED ABOUT YOURSELF IN 2020

My ideal level of interaction with the world/people is somewhere between 2019 and 2020. 2020 was way too isolated but it did make me realise that some alone time is good and I had been overdoing it before. Also, that I like Lady Gaga – the track she did with Elton John was #6 on my best of 2020 list.

NEXT BIG AUSSIE BAND TO WATCH IN 2021?

RedHook.

FAV NEW BAND YOU DISCOVERED IN 2020?

Vilify have come from nowhere in the last part of the year and absolutely floored me. Keen for more from them in 2021.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2021?

WA reopening and inviting back our friends from the east. Especially, the In Hearts Wake / Thornhill / Gravemind / Drown This City tour. I have been waiting a long time to see Drown This City and if they could drop an album (or at least an EP) that would make my year straight out of the blocks.
