Wall of Sound presents: “2019 YEAR IN REVIEW” – by The Gloom In The Corner’s Mikey Arthur
The Gloom in the Corner really burst into our lives (like a chestburster from Alien) this year and most of us at WoS HQ have been in awe of what they’ve been offering. Their latest EP Flesh & Bones was an exceptional concept album that HAS to be heard (our review here) and our head honcho Browny was stoked to finally chat with the guys at BIGSOUND 2019 (podcast here) and get to know the real them + put an idea into the universe (to open/support Ice Nine Kills on their Australian debut tour) which later became a reality (review and gallery here)
The lads are just getting started and we can’t wait to see what 2020 will bring for the Gloomy lads, but until then, take a look at what frontman Mikey Arthur was frothing over this year with our next Wall of Sound Year in Review…

Best Music Video of 2019?
Whitechapel’s video for ‘Hickory Creek‘. The way that it ties in with ‘When A Demon Defiles A Witch‘ and the personal touch added to it, truly heart wrenching stuff.
Best Gig You’ve Seen In 2019?
The Greyscale Showcase. Seeing a whole heap of Australia’s new up-and-coming artists that are a part of that roster truly was an experience!
Best/Most Memorable Show Your Band Played In 2019?
Its probably a 3-way tie. Supporting Chelsea Grin, a band I listened to a lot growing up was definitely a dream come true. Same thing with the just recent show with Ice Nine Kills; the way they incorporate the theatrics into their performance while also keeping tight was outstanding. I don’t think many bands could do that, I know we certainly couldn’t. Lastly, I think the All Ages Show we just did in Croydon. Though it wasn’t a huge show in comparison to those two other shows, it felt super nostalgic and very homely. I wasn’t sure how well we’d go with an all ages crowd, but I was definitely surprised. It was so sick to see kids still turn up to all ages shows, and I hope we get to do more in the future.
What Are You Most Looking Forward To In 2020?
For us in Gloom, putting out new music. Playing the UNIFY Pre-Party should be pretty fun; we’re playing a new song and playing with some of our favourite local bands. Plus, ya know, The Ghost Inside. For me personally though, definitely the My Chemical Romance reunion. Hope they play ‘House of Wolves‘.
