Make Them Suffer – Gig Review 7th September @ Village Green Hotel, Melbourne VIC

Make Them Suffer
Village Green Hotel, Melbourne VIC
September 7th, 2019
Supports: Windwaker and Diamond Construct

Australian metalcore heavyweights Make Them Suffer are currently making their way about the country for a regional tour while working around their upcoming appearance at Heaven and Hell Festival in Brisbane. As Make Them Suffer are a band who tours extensively overseas so its without a doubt that Australian fans were excited to catch them at smaller, more intimate venues.

Diamond Construct was the first act to take to the stage; their energetic stage presence is mesmerising to say the very least. As vocalist Kynan Groundwater encouraged headbanging and moshing the crowd became more involved as their set went on. Playing songs only from their debut self-titled album (our review here), which is their most recent release to date. If you haven’t already checked out this band, it’s not too late to jump on board!

Windwaker was up next, and they didn’t waste a second delivering their unique sound to the already packed band room. It’s no surprise that this band is on the rise at a remarkably steady rate, the way they play their music in a live setting is, without a doubt, outstanding. The band played without guitarist/vocalist Liam Guinane as he played with his band Reside at another venue (also announcing his departure from the band to follow that path at the end of the year yesterday), his replacement did not have an introduction but did an incredible job filling in as he sounds remarkably similar as a vocalist. Playing a healthy mix of old and new songs, Windwaker catered for everybody. If you are heading over to Good Things Festival, this December make sure you arrive early to catch this act.

As the screen behind the stage lit up in the well known MTS symbol, anticipation from the crowd grew immensely. As the band walked on to the stage cheering arose from the punters, and as the band played opening track ‘Vortex’, a sizeable push-mosh pit emerged. Frontman Sean Harmanis‘ ability to interact with a crowd is truly second to none, time after time he manages to get the fans to scream his lyrics back to him. The band played for forty minutes which during that time the fans produced copious amounts of moshing and a wall of death. MTS also played their newest single ‘Hollowed Heart’ which was a definite fan favourite. At the end of their set, they thanked the crowd for coming out then left without playing an encore.

Make Them Suffer continue to maintain the hearts of old fans while winning over the hearts of new fans as they continue to work tirelessly by touring extensively around their beautiful home nation, Australia and the world.
