The Brave - Gig Review & Photo Gallery 22nd March @ The Bendigo Hotel, Melbourne VIC

The Brave
The Bendigo Hotel, Melbourne VIC
March 22nd, 2019
Supports: Windwaker, To Octavia and BLKLST
The hype for this show was huge as I made my way down to The Bendigo Hotel. With The Brave’s new album Aura being released on April 5th and Windwaker’s new EP Empire being released earlier that day (our review here), it was exciting to say the least to hear the new sounds of these incredible bands.
I entered the venue to the alluring sounds of To Octavia. I was in awe straight away as I have never seen a band who plays the first set of the night do so well at warming up the crowd and get people involved at a small show like this. Their music sounded so professionally written and was performed with an incredible amount of confidence. In my opinion, these guys are worth keeping your eyes on! BLKLST were up next and they did an astonishing job of keeping the energy high. These guys are never afraid to play an insanely heavy song or two which is exactly why I love watching them play. They have an admirable amount of enthusiasm during their sets which always seems to translate well to the crowd who is captivated by their every move.
Next it was Windwaker’s turn to take to the stage and suddenly the venue seemed as if it became packed with people. It’s no surprise that this band is on the rise, with their fanbase seemingly growing by the minute. With this show being their first since the release of their new EP Empire which came out only a matter of hours prior, the anticipation was overwhelming. As they started playing it became apparent to me that this five-piece are a world class act. The way they perform is mesmerising to say the least. With deafening sing-alongs and heaps of moshing this band had the crowd begging for more. If you haven’t listened to their new EP yet, get your priorities sorted!
Finally, it was time for The Brave’s set and they didn’t fall short of the mark either. With a healthy mix of soft, heavy, old and new songs, they played with conviction and blew me away. Instrumentally they were incredibly tight and seemingly didn’t miss a note, sounding almost exactly the same as they do on their records. The crowd was responding extremely well with loud singalongs and energetic moshers getting involved. It was an incredible demonstration of how talented this band is and the direction they are heading in. Their new album titled Aura is out on April 5th so get your pre-orders in here.
