Introducing Wall of Sound UNIFY Intern Finalist #1: Kaihlin

If you’ve been living under a rock you wouldn’t know we’re heading to UNIFY Gathering 2019 with our very own Intern. After a solid three weeks of contesting, its time to start introducing you to our potential candidates who have made it through to the finals. Over the next few days (Today to Friday) we’ll introduce you to our competitors who will be battling it out to cover the music festival for us and even score the opportunity to interview some of the bands on the lineup…

The First Finalist is: Kaihlin!!!

WoS UNIFY Intern Finalist #1 - Kaihlin

Hey Kaihlin, CONGRATULATIONS on making it to the finals. Let’s get to know you better… What do you think you’ll bring to the table?

Thank you for selecting me for the top 5! I think I’ll bring a bubbly personality and an ingrained enthusiasm for music to the table. I love Unify and have been every year except 2017. I also have a passion for writing and I’m not shy when it comes to meeting my heroes.

Tell us the story about your entry, how/why’d you decide on this written entry?

My mate tagged me in Wall of Sound’s Facebook post about the competition, we threw around a few ideas and I decided on a recap of my experiences at Unify. It wasn’t too hard to put into words the awesome memories I’ve had from the festival over the years.

Well it was a great piece of work. But now its time for the fun stuff, let’s get to know your music tastes, what are three bands you love and one band you dislike and why?

You Me At Six, Tonight Alive and Camp Cope are three bands I love completely, not just for their live shows, but as musicians. I couldn’t say I dislike a band, but something I can’t really stand listening to is that dumb baby shark song – children need better introductions to good music early on in their lives.

do do do-do do-do… Annnd now the song is stuck in our heads, thanks.  What about the BEST live show you have seen?

The BEST, MOST AMAZING show I’ve ever seen has to be Seth Sentry at Max Watts in 2015. It was the same day as the last Future Music Festival where I saw Darude, Avicii, Die Antwoord and The Prodigy. I remember it being a lively and intense crowd and the energy in the room was amazing.

What about your favourite song of All Time?

Anberlin’s Alexithymia is my favourite song ever.

Finish this sentence: My biggest fangirl moment happened when…

I had been fliering Cute is What We Aim For’s show at The Evelyn, somehow I got talking to them after the Saturday show and they put me on the door for Bang that night and for the All Ages show on the Sunday. I went to the show, cried from the front row, ran out to handout flyers then they invited me back to their hotel and we had Japanese food for dinner. It was super difficult to not freak out, but I got to talk to the band about life and music and we sang Carly Rae Jepson together in their van.

Who are you most keen to see at UNIFY Gathering 2019?

I am most keen to Taking Back Sunday, I’ve seen them before but they always put on an awesome show – when I saw them in 2012 Adam Lazzara was still recovering from a broken leg.

Voting starts next week, why should our readers pick you?

Readers of the Wall of Sound should pick me because I don’t discriminate against anyone’s music taste. I’m always up to listening to anything and everything. Live music brings so much joy to everyone and I would relish in the opportunity to be able to share Unify Gathering 2019 with the readers.

Well, we’ll see what they have to say next week, thanks for your responses and good luck.

Stay tuned for the next Wall of Sound UNIFY Intern Finalist arriving tomorrow…
