Australian heavy metal is in fantastic hands at the moment especially with our recent discovery of one of the BEST upcoming heavy/thrash metal bands we’ve had the chance to lay ears on and (luckily for you) they’re featuring on Episode #51 of Wall of Sound: Up Against The Wall. The band is PurEnvy and they reign from Newcastle’s Hunter Valley, but it’s not wine drinking these lads are known for, it’s the blistering, face melting shredding on their new album Redemption that needs to be heard to be believed (our review here).
The album was released back in March but its surprising it hasn’t taken off since then, so we grabbed frontman Adam Kiefel to chat about the band’s history, the musicians who influenced them all to turn into the riff lords they are today and the interesting way they approached this album, which took over a year to make in Adam’s former two-car-garage-turned-home-studio. But don’t let that throw you off, the sound this band produced is incredible.
Also, Scott Ian (Anthrax/The Damned Things) calls through for a chat about his upcoming Spoken Word Tour in which he’ll be sharing stories from his travels and experiences in bands throughout his life. He even offers up a yarn about Anthrax‘s first visit to Australia which almost resulted in a cancelled show when fans broke the barricade. But in a surprising twist, he also reveals a follow-up album from The Damned Things could be arriving sooner than expected.
Podcast host Browny also pays tribute to Huntress frontwoman Jill Janus who sadly took her own life last week age 43. If you or anyone you know needs help with their own mental well-being call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636 or find your closest Suicide Prevention/Crisis Support Organisation on Google…
There’s also plenty of metal throwbacks from Iron Maiden, Temtris, Satyricon, Trivium, Metallica, Sabaton, Killer Be Killed and Iced Earth, New Music from Soulfly and heaps more…
