The Heavy GRAMMYs Nominations are in and, they actually got it right this year.
Last night Australian Music had it’s time in the spotlight with the ARIAs taking place and Gang of Youths dominated alongside newcomer Amy Shark (who fucking deserved every award she was up for) and the Northlane boys also scored a pointy door stopper too.
Now, the nominees for the world’s night of nights The Grammys have been announced and surprisingly this time around they’ve actually nailed the categories for heavy/rock music. As usual we won’t be focusing on the pop acts who have filled the music industry with utter garbage (Despacito up for song of the year wtf?), instead here’s my picks for who will take out the golden award at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.
Best Rock Performance
Will see the likes of the late Chris Cornell take on Foo Fighters, Leonard Cohen, Kaleo and Nothing More for the prestigious award and as you can see, no misplaced acts this time around.
My Prediction: A posthumous win for Chris Cornell, who’s work has been deserving for so many years.
Best Metal Performance
This time around we’ll see August Burns Red attempt to take home the award in what will be their 2nd visit to The Grammys, this time for their song ‘Invisible Enemy‘ which was in fact a killer track, but can it beat Body Count‘s ‘Black Hoodie‘, Code Orange‘s ‘Forever‘, ‘Sultan’s Curse‘ by Mastodon or Meshuggah‘s ‘Clockworks‘?
My Prediction: If they go with heaviness, you can’t go past Meshuggah, but I think the August Burns Red boys will take it out next year.
Best Rock Song
Turning up the notch for Best Rock Song and we’ve got Metallica‘s ‘Atlas, Rise!‘ taking on K.Flay‘s ‘Blood In The Cut‘, ‘Go To War‘ by Nothing More, Foo Fighters‘ ‘Run‘ and last but certainly not least Avenged Sevenfold‘s ‘The Stage‘. A nice little batch of well deserving songs in my opinion.
My Prediction: This can go two ways, the Grammys could attempt to make up for ruining Metallica‘s performance last year and give it to them OR they’ll go with the Fooies.
Best Rock Album
Yeah we’re still going with this, Rock Album nominees have come a long way and this time we will have Mastodon‘s Emperor of Sand up against Metallica‘s Hardwired… To Self Destruct, Queens of the Stone Age‘s Villains, The War On Drugs‘ A Deeper Understanding and The Stories We Tell Ourselves by Nothing More.
My Prediction: METALLICAAAAAAAAA
Find out who wins a new golden door stopper on January 28th 2018.
And hope this doesn’t happen again…
