On a wet windy Friday night, we headed off to the iconic Sydney Opera House where for the 2nd time the Zep Boys are playing with a 30+ piece orchestra; performing some classic Led Zeppelin along with some not so well known.
The Concert Hall is near capacity tonight with 2000 or so Sydney siders braving the conditions; by the time the Orchestra take the stage you could feel the buzz in the air.
The four gents from Adelaide take the stage and so begins an amazing night. The Orchestral ‘Hammer Of The Gods’ sets the tone. Opening with a few deep cuts for the die-hard fans including ‘In The Light’, Nobody’s Fault’ and ‘What Is And What Should Never Be’ has the room excited for what was to come. Playing with an Orchestra has been done by many bands over the years and I can see/hear why, it adds a whole new dimension to the songs we know and love, and tonight was no exception.
Vocalist Vince Contarino commented on the dynamics of the show, joking about how they’re going to play pub gigs after this magical night. His impressive range throughout the evening needs commending, as does Tzan Niko on guitar – mesmerising all with their professionalism and intricate playing for those in attendance.
With the first half of the show coming to an end with classics like ‘Over The Hills’ and ‘Ramble On’ before ending with ‘Dazed And Confused’ the Sydney crowd are eager for more.
The second half starts with the classic ‘Kashmir’ and is filled with all the classic Zep tunes we know and love, including the iconic ‘Stairway…’, ‘Rock N Roll’ and closing with ‘Whole Lotta Love’. Following tonight’s performance, it was time to venture back into the wind and rain, and I’m sure none of the 2000 in attendance were disappointed; it was an amazing experience and a night they’ll surely never forget.
