Melbourne’s summer sure do be summering (lucky we’re at the end of it!) But on yet another sweltering day, punters were let in early to the Croxton Bandroom to escape the heat and see Michigan emo kids – Hot Mulligan.

First up was Brisbane’s Bad Neighbour who brought their very own flavour of sad rock. You should definitely check these guys out and get keen for their new album which is coming out in a few months.

Coming from the world capital of country music, Nashville, Tennesse, was Free Throw. Turns out country isn’t the only music genre that Nashville can do well, with Free Throw a perfect emo addition to this lineup. There was even a feature from Hot Mulligan frontman Nathan ‘Tate’ Sanville on ‘A Part is Better than Zero’.

Hot Mulligan themselves had the crowd engaged the entire time, with everyone singing along to all the songs with the best and most ridiculous names. Side note – now that emo and scene are having a resurgence, can bands bring back long and redic song names? We miss that sh*t!. There were chats about koalas and chlamydia, how savage Kangaroos are, Tate having a history with Aussies and breaking his teeth opening beer bottles because of them and sadly, a shoey…

On a hot night, Hot Mulligan brought the heat to Melbourne!
