Between You and Me – SH!T YEAH Released: April 5, 2024Lineup:Jake “JT” Wilson // vocalsJames “Bassy” Karagiozis // bassChris Bowerman // guitarJai Gibson // guitarJamey Bowerman // drumsOnline:FacebookInstagramOfficial WebsiteBetween You And Me are not a band you should be missing out on. And if you’ve missed their work until just now, well, lucky you! Because their new EP is out on Friday the 5th of April, and there's no better time to jump on their train than now. Titled SH!T YEAH, this is the band’s first independent release and the culmination of hard work and sold out shows. This EP is short and punchy so let’s get into it. ‘Kill My Vibe’ is a very warm welcome to the listener and is bouncy and upbeat. We’re immediately introduced to JT’s addictive vocals that just beckon you to sing along, and the chorus gives you absolutely no choice—it’s so simple and catchy.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFTK54bt3M8‘In The Middle’ has a very nostalgic feel (don’t ask me how they do that, it’s above my paygrade) and that riff in the background really carries through the song and serves as an unconscious indicator to the listener when to get amped and when to chill out. There are some songs that you just really want to be crushed in a crowd where everyone is jumping up and down screaming their hearts out and having fun. This is one of those songs.Do you want some more attitude? Go for ‘Nevermind’. It’s a little bit sassy and a lot punky. If you want gang vocals and a guitar solo moment, then go for ‘Every Morning’. Props to the band for creating tracks with such different styles, yet still strongly steeped in the BYAM signature tea.‘YEAH!’ takes the pace and just dials it down a little. There’s a bit more focus on the lyrics and the instruments are great supports, letting the vocals really take front and centre. But let’s talk about ‘Sad Songs’. This final track is different right off the mark. When all the previous songs are written in a major key and you hear a song that uses some minor notes, it stands out. The droning effects hit a different part of your brain and JT hits some sweet, sweet notes. Not to mention that outro, it feels like a final song on a piece of work.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqVZH1RT36wThere’s an art to writing successful songs that suit your style and image, and I honestly think that Between You And Me have got it in the bag. When you hear these songs, you can imagine them all on stage having the time of their lives and the crowd too. There’s a certain imagery that they create for their listeners and I think that’s a skill seen by great bands. In the scheme of their career, SH!T YEAH is a triumphant forward bound and I can’t wait to listen to this EP many more times and dissect the lyrics, savour the bridges before the final chorus, and sing all the different melodies.
