On a hot Sydney summer's night, a group of Swedish melodic death metallers are in town and the fans are out in force. Along George St, the pubs are occupied, and a line stretching as far as the eye could see by black shirts because the metalheads are out in droves for a Sold Out Metro Theatre show for Arch Enemy!

As the sound of John Farnham's 'You’re The Voice' fades, Brisbane-based support Valhalore take to the stage and delivers a quality set of melodic folk metal, which at times was borderline thrash. These guys and gal really know how to warm up a crowd, big things coming for them soon I feel.

By now the venue is bursting at the seams and it’s a fight to get back down to the front. I’ve never seen the Metro so full, it’s a great sight, especially after the last few years of the “C” word.

The lights go out and 'Ace Of Spades' thunders through the PA as the crowd erupts and the “Arch Enemy” chants begin…

Opening with 'Deceiver, Deceiver' from their latest album Deceivers the band have the crowd under their spell and are in total control, with frontwoman Alissa White-Gluz in the driving seat. She has an amazing stage presence and her voice is in great shape delivering growls along with clean vocals to perfection.

The twin guitars of Jeff Loomis and Michael Arnott are impeccable they are true masters of their trade.

The next two songs go by in a blink ('The World is Yours' & 'Ravenous') and my time in the pit is up just as they kick into my (and probably a lot of other’s favourite) track 'War Eternal'.

With a set list that read like a greatest hits, 19 songs long in total (including a 5-song encore) they left Sydney’s Metro Theatre wrecked and from the smiles and chatter outside there wasn’t a disappointed metalhead tonight.

Arch Enemy, thank you for an amazing night 🤘🏼 And thank you DRW and Metropolis Touring for making it happen.
