Yungblud Hooks Up with Oli Sykes for Synth-Driven Collab 'Happier'

After exceeding expectations when they teamed up with 'OBEY', Yungblud has once again joined forces with Bring Me The Horizon's Oli Sykes for their brand new collaboration 'Happier'.

Put all preconceived expectations behind you because this one is completely electronic and synth-driven with Yungblud's iconic vocals drawing us in alongside some children-chanting "hey" for good measure (almost sounding akin to that of Troye Sivan's 'Wild'). Oli's verse is also electronic-infused, sounding like a digital version of our favourite heavy frontman. But as the pair sing together, he lets out some quiet screams (not enough to write home about for this writer).

On the subject of 'Happier', Yungblud shares

“I have almost been conditioned by myself my whole life to be in pain. When I’m in pain I work better. I function better because I have something to combat. It’s dark but it’s all I’ve ever known. The feeling of happiness is scary because you feel like it’s all about to go wrong. I have always felt that if I’m happy I’ll get complacent so it’s lost me a lot of opportunity for friendships and relationships in the past. I got really emotional when writing this. I was craving another Yungblud song that would burn in my stomach, make me feel like it’s all gonna be ok and encourage me to fight back against old habits and try my best to re-align myself to be better. It’s ok to find happiness, it’s ok to feel it. I hope you find a little bit of it in this song. You deserve it. Everyone does.”

Knowing the potential this pair can really do went they put more effort into their music, and the fact that a vast majority of Oli's collaborations in recent years have been top-tier, I can't help but think this one falls flat for me. And I rate both singers.
