Yours Truly Get Deep on 'California Sober'; New Album Toxic Out Next Month
I want a taste of whatever magic Sydney pop-punk outfit Yours Truly are bottling because they have been on an absolute musical roll this year, and it just keeps getting better. Following January’s ‘Call My Name’ and May’s defiant release ‘Sour’, Yours Truly have been painting a pretty clear picture of what we can expect from the band’s next chapter – biting lyrics, big melodies, and catchy, energetic tracks that are ready to prove that the band are a pop punk force to be reckoned with.New single ‘California Sober’ is another engaging and empowering step forward for the three-piece. Taken from their forthcoming album, the ode to being present and in the moment finds Yours Truly baring their souls – Mikaila Delgado delivering power-laced confessional songwriting alongside catchy pop punk hooks, readymade for big, moshpit singalongs (perfectly timed for the huge international shows the band have lined up in the coming months).
"California Sober was written during the same period as Sour," the band shares. "We’d started working on Sour – we were getting nowhere with it. We had a bit of a breakdown; we were crying and talking about things... We were mucking around, playing guitar, and Mikaila started singing about when you come over and your friends are stoned; just sitting there, not wanting to do much. It’s all good and fun, but you can’t enjoy other people’s company and think ‘I’m not good enough to hang out with’

The best part is, there is a stack more Yours Truly to come, with the band’s second album TOXIC ready to be unveiled this August 16. They’re promising the fun, pop-punk energy of their earlier releases layered with a forward-thinking boldness and a lean into heavier, darker territory. And I, for one, am very ready for it.
