Last year we told you to keep your eyes peeled for Future Static who have been paving their way in the heavy music scene for a few years by dropping killer tracks and an applaud-worthy cover that all led to them dropping their debut album a few weeks back. With Liminality out and scoring rave reviews on a national (and global) scale, the band start their unwind after venturing outside of Australia for the first time and rounding out the year supporting ElectricCallboy across the country.Let's keep that motivation growing as we catch up with bassist/vocalist KiraNeil and find out her pickings of the year's best and where the band's music took them...

FAV AUSTRALIAN ACT YOU CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF RIGHT NOW?

Heartline from Adelaide - they dropped a single and a cover this year that slapped and have been touring all over the place in 2023, I have a good feeling 2024 will be a massive year for those boys.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xt4eImDBD-g

BEST GIG YOU PLAYED THIS YEAR AND WHY?

We were really lucky to play so many amazing shows this year, from Unify Off The Record, to supporting Voyager, to touring Europe with The Omnific and Australia with Electric Callboy, but the one that felt the most special was Terra’s final show at Stay Gold. They’re a band we’ve known since almost the start, and though both our bands have changed and grown since we first played together in 2017, I’ll always appreciate them as both musicians and friends. We were honoured to be invited to support them and I’ll never forget the bittersweet energy in the room as we sang along to their songs one last time. Very close second is definitely the hometown show on the Electric Callboy tour. The room was the biggest we’d played up to that point, Melbourne brought all the energy, we had so many friends in the crowd, and we all felt like it was one of the best shows we’d ever played.https://www.instagram.com/p/CugcA2_yS6U/?hl=en&img_index=1

TELL US A CORE MEMORY FROM A MUSIC FESTIVAL SET

We got to play Euroblast in Cologne while we were on tour in Europe and weren’t really sure what to expect - it’s a predominately prog festival so we weren’t sure if we were going to be too metalcore and we were sure most people hadn’t heard of us. I didn’t know if we’d have much of a crowd or if they’d react like the crowds we were used to. But when we played 'Roach Queen' to a packed room and got the biggest wall of death we’d gotten outside of Melbourne, it felt pretty special to know that people were enjoying our music that much so far from home. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E98IOdcnB-Y

BIGGEST HOLY SHIT MOMENT FOR YOU THIS YEAR?

Definitely getting Number 1 on the AIR charts for our debut album, Liminality. The album was a massive labour of love, we’d put so much into every part of it and we hoped it would do well but you never really know until it’s out in the world. To see that that many people had enjoyed the singles so much that they’d preordered, or seen us for the first time on the Electric Callboy tour directly after the album dropped and had bought a cd or vinyl, meant that our music had connected to so many more people than we had expected. We’re so, so grateful to everyone who has supported the album so far. https://www.instagram.com/p/C1DmasCyiwT/?hl=en

ANY SNEAK PEEKS OF INBOUND PLANS NEXT YEAR?

We have no plans of slowing down. We’ve already announced some amazing festivals we’ll be playing in Europe again next year, but there’s more on the cards closer to home too.
