Taking adversity and turning it into art is the blueprint for many artists, but when that adversity leads to a complete restructure- not many bands are able to come out the other side stronger. This is where UK metalcore act POLAR bucks the trend.Formed in 2009, the band built a cult following across the span of their career. Building a solid reputation of relentless and intense releases and live shows, but after 15 years the band found itself on the brink of collapse. After a chaotic 2023 that led to a significant lineup change, founding vocalist Adam Woodford took on the challenge to breathe new life into Polar. Joining him on this mission are brand new members Stefan Whiting on bass, Bruno Consani and Simon Richardson on guitars, and drummer Max Flohr.Hyping us up for this rejuvenated POLAR, the band has announced the release of their upcoming studio album, »Five Arrows» Set to be released on November 22nd of this year, the singles they have released so far have us chomping at the bit for this one.The latest single 'Paranoia', featuring the incredible Rachel Aspe from Cage Fight, is a diverse symphony of heavy. It also takes on some often-neglected concepts when it comes to mental health as explained by Adam:
"When going through the lowest points in the past few years, there has been periods where I have heavily battled this feeling, weighing heavily in my mind and putting immense pressure on my mental health. Putting the feeling into song/words has been a therapy to me and we are incredibly honoured to have Rachel Aspe (Cage Fight) guesting on the track. Rachel brings a whole new level of aggression that really brings to life the concept of my mind battling against the crushing feeling of Paranoia.”

Adam’s vocals are aggressive and raw, backed up by a fury of two-step worthy riffs and melodic samples. Giving us also an anthemic chorus and a groove-laden breakdown, it shows a willingness to think out of the box when writing tracks of this genre. With a fresh lineup, new inspiration and a determination to ring in this new era of POLAR, this is one band to keep your eye on as we near those end-of-year releases.Words by Kayla Hamilton @kaylazomboid
