Thornhill Intoxicate With Latest Offering, ‘Viper Room’

When it comes to the exploration of one's own creative endeavours, no one is doing it quite like Thornhill. Whether it be through their shifting soundscape, or the production of their own fashion clothing store, the sense of identity that rings throughout Thornhill as a whole is not only admirable, but unmissable. From early beginnings in the height of the Australian metalcore scene, to the adoption of a romantic Hollywood narrativescape in their 2022 album Heroine, the boys have used their years and churned them back into their sound, developing a maturity and tantalizing story world. This saga continues in the freshly dropped ‘Viper Room’, an ode to temptation and a strapping representation of the seductive nature of the Melbourne band.

Introducing itself with delicate footsteps and a familiar bell, the formatlies are halted by an immediately sultry bassline that hooks and entices- and one that fails to waver for the remainder of the song. Jacob Charlton’s alluring vocals take their own moment- brisking against the microphone delicately but passionately. For fans of the latest album, Heroine, it is safe to say much of the same energy carries over to this track- an infectious confidence that oozes from the band's performance in the studio and an inescapable audible charm.

The track’s soaring chorus houses a perfect blend of Charlton’s highs and then drowsy, pleading undertones. ‘Viper Room’ also dives into a creative instrumental mix- at times, a battle of fast-paced drums and that demanding bassline. All elements are worthy and fighting for the listener's attention, making each turn exciting. The track perhaps culminates in the bridge; a charismatic feat of intoxicating and theatrical vocals that are geared back onto the path by the structured instrumentals. There is perhaps even a twang of Muse influence to be found within the track!

On the new single, Thornhill share:

"Viper Room discusses a one sided urge to keep pursuing an individual out of stubborn lust and fear, even when given explicit warning to move on."

‘Viper Room’ is a mystical entryway into the new era of Thornhill; one that finds itself situated in the band’s most self-assured status to date. Laced with confidence, the belief in their own sound and creative style really shines, and is perhaps one of the band's greatest traits. With nothing to prove but everything to gain, I cannot wait to see what comes next!
