Thornhill Captivate With Latest Offering, ‘Obsession’
2024 is set to be the year of Thorny, plunging fast into a realm of haunting, alluring, and sultry tunes that are not merely tantalizing to the taste buds, but capturing the band at their most self-assured and creatively defined. Today, the Melbourne-based metalcore superstars have followed up on the year’s earlier release, ‘Viper Room’, with the dazzling ‘Obsession’; an auditory assortment of lust, longing, and desire. This latest track continues to tear Thornhill open at their very core, painting them in a lens of devotion and expressing themselves as entities of ‘Obsession’. The track opens with a subtle and inviting ringing, one inescapable to the ears and luring to the feeling of anticipation. ‘Obsession’ then begins to ignite after a sharp amplifier noise that gives way to the signature deep and chunky bass and whirling guitar notes of the metalcore outfit. As Jacob Charlton’s vocals arrive, we are met with them presented in one of their most unique ways yet. Filled with a passionate restraint; a feeling of self-restriction that battles the unhealthy needs of the track’s lyrics, the vocals hit with a layer of grime, enigmatically blurry yet rich in connection. In parts, the track presents as an enriching affair between Jacob and the microphone, housing an inextricable, Deftones-esque mouth to the mic type of flair. Concluding instrumentally, ‘Obsession’ lingers prominently, with its feelings permeating beyond its duration.
