Columbus, Ohio’s Sanguisugabogg aren’t ones to muck around when it comes to their art; but they don’t take themselves too seriously either. The band's grim blend of dissonant instrumentals, infused with absurdly exaggerated lyrical themes, makes for a grotesque affront that is both provocative, yet also cartoonishly endearing.Once again, these merchants of bloodshed have struck bone with their aptly titled new single, ‘Permanently Fucked’ - it’s been a long while coming, given the song has been a staple of the band’s live show for some time (including on their recent Australia Tour).Missing wires on a snare drum? No problem. The shell’s hollowed-out ‘clunk’, mixed with a clatter of double-kicker and cymbal crashes, is all engineered into an alluring tincture of rhythmic brilliance. Pair this together with bass that has been down-tuned to hit the floor, serrated guitar tones capable of butchering flesh, and gurgling vocals dripping with whatever grime has been scraped off the sewer wall - we’ve got ourselves a prototypical Sanguisugabogg belter.
