RIP Blink-182...

Just when you thought the new incarnation of Blink-182 couldn't get any worse (yes that's not a typo, read my review of their new album here) an EDM remix of Bored to Death has surfaced and the DJ known as Ivan Milat Steve Aoki is to blame for the monstrosity. According to an interview with Rolling Stone bassist Mark Hoppus actually expressed his approval of the remix and explained it's something the band and DJ came up with together:

"We've been talking for a couple of years about collaborating on a track together, and all of our schedules finally aligned. He came to the studio we were recording California in for a couple of days, bounced some ideas back and forth, and he took the song back to his studio and worked his magic there. I really dig what he did with the track, took it to a whole different place."

Now like scientists and cloning, just because you can, doesn't mean you should! I mean Travis Barker hooked up with Steve Aoki back in 2011 and their song was heavy (to an extent), yet enjoyable because it wasn't a pop-punk track and well, anything Travis does is pure gold but this is the type of shit they should not be collaborating on, this dance bullshit just ran Blink-182's name into the ground.

According to the Rolling Stone interview, Steve first discovered the band back in college:

"I was in college at the time, sophomore year at UCSB 1996-97, and a roommate of mine was blasting Cheshire Cat in the vegan co-op I was living in, that was my intro to Blink-182. Their songs become undeniable sing-a-longs with the most relatable lyrics. They are extremely cool dudes in general, and I love working in the studio with people so dedicated to their craft. I've been a long time fan before becoming friends with them."

Now before you start sending death threats and abuse (again) think back to when Tom Delonge and his band Angels & Airwaves released their remix EP Stomping the Phantom Brake Pedal the remixes just worked because the band's style of music was already set up in a way to embrace that futuristic synthy sound; with Blink approving this new dance styled remix, are they just trying to tap into a sound already made famous by their former (and far more talented superior) member?

It's up to you to decide but for now I'll just leave this here and ride off into the sunset on my high horse. Check out the Official Video below... if you're ready to literally be Bored to Death
