A long long time ago... Okay, it was only 2017 to be fair.We first introduced the world to a little band from the New Sound Wales Central Coast by the name of Reliqa - who were just starting out on their musical journey after playing a handful of shows without any singles down. From there they dropped their debut Afterlight EP and started gaining momentum in the local heavy music scene when they presented their ambitious Eventide EP a few short months later - which left a lasting impression and set the foursome up for some major achievements early on in their careers.Then, they really started to turn heads following the release of the prog-tastic single 'Mr. Magic', which skyrocketed their success furthermore and set up the foundations for their last release, the addictive I Don't Know Who I Am EP - which consequently found Reliqa supporting the likes of BABYMETAL, Spiritbox and Sevendust, as well as being added to both the Full Tilt and Monolith Festival runs. They even spared time to create the intro theme song for our Educate Ebony podcast series, which still RIPS hard![wpadcenter_ad id=177589 align='center']We last discussed the band's rise to fame back in 2019 - and today we're gonna have to update y'all again because they've burst back onto the scene with a new song and a MASSIVE label signing that's going to put them on an international level of recognition.That little band from the Cenny Coast has officially signed with Nuclear Blast Records (Internationally) and GreyscaleRecords (Australia) which is not only well deserved for the genre-bending metallers, but yet again proves that the next generation of heavy acts are ready to take that next step with their stories - and we couldn't be more stoked for MoniquePym (vocals), BrandonLloyd (guitar) and brothers Benjamin and MilesKnox (drums and bass).
We’ve been sitting on the news for a little while, loving every minute while working really hard to make this launch the best it could be. Our little team has expanded pretty massively, but the best part is how tight-knit it still feels. We just have the most beautiful people behind us and we click so well with everyone, it’s a dream come true. Knowing that this huge development is now out in the public eye is pretty surreal, but it’s a welcome change. The response has been incredible!
Along with the signing news, today the group share the first taste of their next venture with 'Terminal' - which came about through a new songwriting venture for the band that found them swapping previous remote recording processes in favour of a forced (yet welcomed) start from scratch working together in the same room. The end result can now be heard and instantly sounds leagues ahead of previous entries from the foursome.We reached out to the band to expand on their new single, to which Monique replied:"Terminal is unlike anything we’ve released before, I think most long-term listeners will agree there. Sonically, and even visually, we’ve taken some pretty big leaps. There’s a vibrant, glossy, infectious energy to this track that we’re only just now unlocking, and our producer slash co-writer (slash BFF) Chris Blancato played a big hand in helping us find it. Historically we’ve been a pretty ‘techy’ band, and we certainly haven’t abandoned that part of our identity, but Terminal is a more fun, widely accessible addition to our repertoire. A super rewarding exercise in practicing restraint."
"In terms of influence, personally I would say I was pretty inspired by Void of Vision’s Chronicles in the making of this one. Brandon’s love of K-Pop really shines through too actually. As always, we drew on sounds from all over the place."
An alluring assault on the senses awaits you as Reliqa draws you in with their presence with upbeat synth and Pym's delicate vocal performance guiding us along hand-in-hand. This new era sounds fresh and exciting and we can't wait for the rest of the world to finally uncover this hidden Aussie gem.As for the future, we're three EPs down for Reliqa, but will we ever see a full-length? Mon briefly touched on the idea, revealing;
"I hate to be cryptic, but all I can really say is, the future is looking bright!"
