PREMIERE: No Life Set Sights on the Big Time with New Thumper 'Identity Crisis'
We've been on the hunt for new bands to showcase and one that are well and truly worth your time is No Life. The soon-to-be former New Zealand natives broke onto the scene last year with their Delinquent EP which set them up for a stack of good things, including their first-ever Australian tour.Hellbent on making sure we remember their name, the group, consisting of Connor Dickson (vocals), DJ Fieldes (guitar), MitchBlair (bass) and KahiBettridge (drums) return today with their latest offering in the form of 'IdentityCrisis' - combining a menacing attack on the senses with some overly impressive gutturals from Connor with an infectious display of industrial metal instrumentals with plenty of edge. The riffs reign supreme throughout this track, but the anxiety-inducing synth gives the music that extra sense of dread - combined with that nasty breakdown, No Life are set to destroy eardrums. Before the song's official drop tomorrow, we grabbed Connor for a catch-up chat on all things No Life and their future plans, which may just have them relocating down under if industry whispers are right...Welcome back to Wall Of Sound - How's life in No Life so far this year?Heya team! It's going great so far thank you! The wheels are spinning and we don't plan on slowing down anytime soon! Before getting into new music tell us how the reception was from last year's EP drop and Aussie tour?It was absolutely amazing! We never truly expected the reception we've received and continue to receive but we are incredibly humbled & grateful! So thanks guys :) The Aussie tour was insane, despite all the clashes we faced against the big boys it was a super fun time and left a lasting impression, we can't wait to play here more & more! The scene is strong & thriving and it inspires us to our core!'Identity Crisis' is your new face smasher. It's got all the makings of a ferocious assault on the senses - crisp screams, gorgeous gutturals thumping drums and riffs-a-plenty. What inspired this number? Thanks for those kind words! For this bad boy we've really found our groove for what makes No Life, No Life. So, we wanted to showcase our versatility, especially within the vocal range and the EDM/DnB elements we touch on in "Delinquent" whilst also keeping it heeeeavy. We truly feel this newer more polished sound is something we feel many will enjoyHow did the writing and recording process differ from the Delinquent era?The overall process wasn't too much different than our usual way of going about things, but this time we definitely spent more time together in a room, as we usually work remotely as we're on two separate Islands. We also added a lot more electronica, as NZ is known for its DnB scene, so we really leaned into that this time round. Ultimately we had a lot more fun and bro'd down to get the best results possible.I'm hearing whispers No Life may be relocating in future - what can you tell us about those rumours? You are not wrong! We are all well underway for the big move, so all going well you can expect us permanently on Aus shores in the near future! What's driven this decision is the amazing reception we received when we were here back in September, as well as more opportunity and a much larger scene. We honestly can't wait! See you soon MmmMelbin2024 is off to a heavy start with this new track, what else is No Life manifesting this year?We have something really exciting up our sleeves, we can't give away too much but we really have pushed ourselves and expect everyone to like it (fingers crossed). Tune back in, in May is all we can say. Lastly, more shows! We look to get another run in, in your beautiful country before the year is out![wpadcenter_ad id=176804 align='center']New Zealand's becoming renowned for its heavy music scene of late - who are some upcoming bands over your way we should be keeping our eyes on?It's really pumping atm, which is great to see! But I'd like to shout out the smaller bands on this one! Keep an eye out for Sawn Off, Flowers of Hades, Take Hold & lastly our boys in The Rising Tide. All noted. Any final thoughts?Thank you again for this opportunity! And let's have a ripper of a year! Kia Kaha from your fav Kiwi's.Interview by Paul ‘Browny’ Brown@brownypaul
