Perth's Hotly Tipped Metal Crew Allocer Begin Their 2024 with Raging Single 'Deadringer'

Western Australian up-and-comers - and Wall of Sound favs - Allocer have kicked in 2024’s door and dropped a fresh brutal banger. The five-piece’s debut EP - 2023’s The First Offering - was an excellent melding of European melodic death metal with strong deathcore (and a touch of blackened) influences. Not interested at all in resting on their laurels, the boys are back with a new tune, the killer ‘Deadringer’.

Cranking up everything that was great on The First Offering, the song is packed with flailing drums, grabbing ear-worms and pace-y riffs - way more than open chugs here - while things get brutal towards the tail end with guttural vocals and a big meaty breakdown. With a definite nod to the likes of The Black Dahlia Murder and the kings of the Gothenburg melodic death metal scene, 'Deadringer' is a perfect example of Allocer confidently straddling the line between the new and the old-school.

Getting the opportunity to chat the group again, Wall of Sound took the chance to get up to speed with Allocer’s recent happenings - and sneak look into their plans for the next 12 months.

Thanks for chatting with Wall Of Sound again guys! How has the reception been to The First Offering and your most recent shows?

The reception has been great so far. We’ve played some awesome gigs after the EP came out and definitely received some very kind feedback both online and at shows. Some of the highlights would be supporting Dripped and Iniquitous Monolith on the Perth leg of the Liquified Torment tour and also supporting our mates in Our Demise for their EP launch just before Christmas. We're also grateful to continue our relationship with Slam Worldwide and the reception from their viewers is awesome to engage with.

The new single 'Deadringer' is a barn-stormer! How was it written and what inspired the lyrics?

'Deadringer' is about the 'safety coffins' that were being used back in the 19th century. The prospect of being buried alive was a very real problem back then that peaked with the Cholera outbreaks which would leave victims with the appearance of being dead when they actually were suffering some of the more severe symptoms of Cholera. The problem became so common that the 'deceased' were buried with a string tied around their body which is then connected to a bell placed above their grave, if they were indeed buried alive they would have to ring the bell and hope the night watchman noticed it in time to be dug up. Deadringer - or Hot off the press as we refer to it - has been around for a long time and was actually one of the songs that didn't make the cut for The First Offering. We decided to approach the song with a fresh perspective after seeing the final product of our songs for The First Offering, basically it just wasn't at the same level that the EP was. We had a lot of help with it from our former bassist which we were grateful for and our guitarist Aaron, who joined at the tail end of recording the EP, got to flex his shredding skills with us for the first time on the solo.

With one new track already in the can for this year, what can fans expect from Allocer in 2024?

The Allocer train is rolling into 2024 strong and the mood in the band is one of determination to spread the good word of the 'Loce across Australia and beyond. We'll announce it here first that we are in the studio recording our new 3 track EP which is titled Worship (directed towards a certain band we all love) and is due out towards the middle of the year. We also plan to have another 3 track EP out before the end of the year. We are really trying to push ourselves as musicians and songwriters with the material on Worship, so if you liked The First Offering we think Worship will bring the goods and then some.

We can't announce anything yet but we are in talks of bringing the Allocer train over East for the first time this year so keep an eye on the socials for that but if you like what we do and want to bear witness to our mayhem live, spread the word around for us and hopefully we make it to a town near you soon. We bring all the goods with our merch and you can walk out the gig looking fresher than when you walked in.

With plenty of new music up their collective sleeves - and if 'Deadringer' is anything to go by - the next year promises to be absolutely jam-packed for one Australia's hottest metal commodities, Allocer.Words by Andrew Kapper@andrew_kapper
