NOFX Unveil "Half Album" And Drop Steamboat Willie-Inspired Video for Lead-Single 'I'm a Rat'
First came 2021's shining light Single Album, which was then followed up with 2022's prestigious Double Album and now NOFX have unveiled a brand new Half Album which is set for release on April 19th and kinda/sorta signals the beginning of the middle of the end for the punk rock royals...Confused? You should be!As Fat Mike reveals, the five new songs were all from the same recording process, they've just been post-maturing.
"These songs were all recorded at the same time," the frontman explains. "It just takes me a while to finish shit. So, this is me tying up loose ends, which is very good for the soul."
"Was it worth it? Was it worth spending five years finishing the five songs on my double album project that I thought were the worst of the bunch? Was it a good idea to spend so much time raising the runts of the litter? Was it an error in judgement when I wrote a song about the magnitude of my arrogance? I think the answers to all these rhetorical questions might be found by listening to this half-sided album..... but I seriously doubt it."
As we know, NOFX have announced they're calling it quits after 40 years. They've played festivals and their final headline shows in Australia (our review here) and now they're starting to slow down (but not really) with Half Album - which has also been revealed to not be the last record that NOFX will release.The band, consisting of Fat Mike, Eric Melvin, Erik 'Smelly' Sandin, and Aaron' El Hefe' Abeyta can do whatever the fuck they want, and with the recent news of Steamboat Willie entering the public domain, they've run head-first into using the classic Mickey Mouse IP for their accompanying 'I'm a Rat' music video.The song itself was originally written by Mike, but recorded by Japanese punk rockers Hi-Standard (also signed to Mike's label Fat Wreck Chords) and eagle-eyed fans will pick up the song was also released on last year's Fat Mike Gets Strung Out - with a string version making its way online.With today's news, all we can say is expect the unexpected as NOFX edge closer to calling it a day - whenever and however that may be.
