Following on from the success of the band's 20th Anniversary of Hybrid Theory, Linkin Park are keeping the momentum flowing for their legion of fans with their stellar follow-up release Meteora which turns the big 20 in 2023.
Flashing back briefly (for now) to the year 2003, I was in Grade 11 and still to this day can remember the hype in the lead-up to this album. Hybrid Theory put Linkin Park on the map and changed the nu-metal game forever... But could the band continue riding that wave of success with their sophomore release? You bet they could!
We'll be reflecting back on Meteora's success through singles and mainstream support a bit closer to the big day (on March 25th), but until then, the boys have started their own hype campaign with the release of a brand-new track, taken from the Meteora 20th Anniversary Edition - set for release on April 7th - featuring 6 never-before-heard songs with original vocals from Chester, and available in a Limited Edition Super Deluxe Box Set, Deluxe Vinyl Box Set, Deluxe 3-CD, and Digital Download.
Pre-orders will be available at 4pm AEDT today here.
A must-have for collectors, the Limited Edition Super Deluxe Box Set boasts six additional unreleased songs, plus demos, b-sides, live shows, and never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage on five LPs [Meteora (1 LP), Live in Texas (2 LP) – for the first time on vinyl – , and the previously unreleased Live in Nottingham 2003 (2 LP)], four CDs [Meteora (1 CD), LPU Rarities 2.0 (1 CD), Live Rarities 2003-2004 (1 CD), and Lost Demos (1 CD)], and three DVDs, including four previously unreleased concerts [The Making of Meteora/The Art of Meteora/Work In Progress (1 DVD), Veterans Stadium (2003), Live in Seoul (2003) (1DVD), and Live In Manila (2004), Live in Denver – Projekt Revolution 2004 (1 DVD). It also includes a 40-page book, 36” x 24” poster, litho, sticker sheet, stencil, and hi-res download card.
Meanwhile, the Deluxe Vinyl Box Set consists of four LPs [Meteora (1 LP), LPU Rarities 2.0 (2 LP), and Live Rarities 2003-2004 (1 LP)]. The Deluxe CD includes the original Andy Wallace mix of “Lost” and features three CDs— Meteora (1 CD), LPU Rarities 2.0 (1 CD), and Live Rarities 2003-2004 (1 CD).
'Lost' is one of those songs from the Meteora era of the band and kicks off with some clean, crisp synth before Chester Bennington's alluring melodic vocals draw us in. He's met by rapper Mike Shinoda speaking softly behind him as we're taken up to a chorus where Chester belts out the words:
'I'm lost in these memories/living behind my own illusion/Lost, all my dignity/living inside my own confusion.'
As the song progresses, it tends to get a little louder and rockier in parts, but from a fan perspective, it's a slow-jam offering that's high quality and sounds like it could have been released as a B-side back in 2003. It's not as synthy/programmed as hit singles like 'Somewhere I Belong' or 'Numb', nor is it action-packed like 'Faint', but, it could sit somewhere between 'Easier To Run' or 'From the Inside'.
Either way, it's a new Linkin Park song for us to listen to, reflect on the years passed, and throwback to a time when a lot of us were forging our own way through the heavy music scene at a young age with music and bands that are still with us all these years later... no matter the circumstances.
On 'Lost' Mike Shinoda says:
"Finding this track was like finding a favorite photo you had forgotten you’d taken, like it was waiting for the right moment to reveal itself. For years, fans have been asking us to release something with Chester’s voice, and I’m thrilled we’ve been able to make that happen in such a special way. I think they’re going to be floored when they hear and see all the incredible unreleased songs and video footage in METEORA|20."
Are you ready for #Meteora20 celebrations? We sure as hell are!
