It's Valentine's Day so if you have a partner who happens to like the cutesy side of things but you don’t, you can compromise with a romantic movie night at home with one of these creepy classics. It will be the Valentine surprise they never saw coming. Just make sure you buy some nice choccies, you’re going to need movie snacks!
Valentine DayZ [2018]
If you’re looking for a reason to get dumped this month, I definitely recommend signing up to Amazon Prime and forcing your significant other to sit through Valentine DayZ. It’s rare to see some middle-aged people finding love in horror movies but this is just bad all round (the cinematographer did a decent job) and the lead actor has the emotional range of a slab of concrete but there’s zombies, a ventriloquist dummy, and if you pay enough attention you’ll suddenly realize during one scene that Evil Ash Williams face is on your screen.Watch:Prime Video
An American Werewolf In Paris [1997]
An American travelling around Europe tries to save a French girl from throwing herself off the Eiffel Tower and because he’s completely incapable of listening to anybody, gets himself bitten by a werewolf in the process. Andy [Tom Everett Scott] is insufferable and you want bad things to happen to him because nobody can be this dumb but for the most part it’s a funny film with a cool soundtrack.Watch:Tubi TV
Cursed [2005]
Have you ever loved someone so much you wanted to turn them into a werewolf against their will? Yeah, me neither. This Wes Craven flick gets a lot of hate but how can anyone despise a movie with Christina Ricci and a super bitchy Judy Greer? The werewolves looked great and the movie isn’t taking itself that seriously so nobody else should either.Watch:Prime Video
What Keeps You Alive [2018]
Traditionally, on your first wedding anniversary you gift each other paper but Millennial’s like to do things differently. Jackie decides to take her wife Jules to her family’s cabin in the woods and push her off a cliff to cash in her life insurance. I guess money is paper? The first sign things might not have been ok in their relationship though, was when Jackie announced their song was Anthem For The Year 2000. Great song, but romantic? Nah.Watch:Prime Video
The Butterfly Effect [2004]
If there were a poll for what most women would choose as the most romantic film, The Notebook would probably be the clear winner. Personally, I’d pick something like What Dreams May Come because else says ‘true love’ like trying to rescue your wife from an eternity in Hell? The Butterfly Effect is much the same. Evan Treborn [Ashton Kutcher] discovers he can travel through time and goes out of his way to rewrite history, over and over again, so his childhood crush can have a decent life away from her abusive father. The movie has a few endings but I like going for the absolutely brutal one. I need to feel emotionally destroyed.Watch:Prime Video
Bones And All [2022]
For something a little different, Bones An All is about young love and cannibalism! Maren hits the road after her father deserts her and meets another young cannibal Lee. They go on a road trip to Minnesota so Maren can find her mother and along the way they fall in love but the real horror in Bones And All is this old creeper Sully who has taken a liking to Maren even though he’s old enough to be her grandfather. Kissed [1996]
Have you ever met a girl who completely fascinated you and within minutes of meeting she freely tells you she’s an embalmer because she likes to make love to dead bodies? Considering Bones and All is considered horror despite a total lack of anything horror happening, then Kissed can also be classified. It’s definitely not suitable for Family Movie Night.Watch:Plex
Bram Stoker’s Dracula [1992]
Dracula has a bad rep for a man who shunned God and decided he would rather be an immortal beast just to avenge his wife’s death. Like, that’s noble. True love turned him into a vampire, and True Love is what saves him in the end. It’s beautiful. Whenever this movie is brought up in discussion the focus is instantly on Keanu Reeves acting ability and we all know we’re watching this movie for one thing and one thing only: Gary Oldman.Watch:Youtube Movies
My Bloody Valentine
Nothing says ‘Be My Valentine’ more than stalking people, removing their hearts and leaving them inside heart-shaped candy boxes. This 1981 horror was remade in 3D in 2009 so you can watch either version really depending on your preferences but if you're one of these people who lusts after Jensen Ackles you'll want to watch the remake.Watch:Original on Prime Video / 3D on Stan
Valentine [2001]
Personally, it’s not V Day without a bit of David Boreanaz (back when he was popular with the girls thanks to Buffy/Angel) acting a little shady in this fun early 2000’s slasher where a bunch of female friends start being killed off one by one by a killer in a cupid mask.
