"Take that dream by the throat tonight..." - Jenna McDougall/Heveshe

This call to action from one of Australia's most admirable entities will ring out for years to come as Jenna McDougall aka Heveshe makes a triumphant return to her solo project (following a quick reunion with Tonight Alive in Sydney last week) to drop this new melodic jam that'll have you singing into the weekend.

'Essential' finds Hevenshe honing in on those bluesy/folky vocal roots with an uptempo drum beat behind her that guides you into a powerful guitar-driven chorus where the hevens open up and the empowerment makes itself known with every word sung. Co-written by a cast of who's who from Australia's alternative music scene - including Ben Stewart (Slowly Slowly), Marie 'Maz' De Vita (WAAX) and Gabriel Strum (Japanese Wallpaper) - you're in for a treat once you hit replay and lose yourself in the music that was created by a masterclass of musicians.

On the new song, Hevenshe shares:

"'Essential' is IN the world and OF the world. I was disillusioned by both material and spiritual life when this song was written… Divinely discontent but equally tired of aspiring for purity. I’ve been walking the line between striving for a sweeter, more sensuous and satisfying existence, while finding it increasingly complicated to want to “rise above” what’s on offer in the world.

I think to be alive is a miracle. I think it’s ironic that we only get a glimpse of eternity and we know it. I think our minds get sick when we are too absorbed in the man-made and that returning to nature also connects us to Self and community, which together sustain the soul. I think consciousness is eternal but this earthly, temporary life deserves credit too and ultimately it doesn’t help us to believe we’re immune to the human condition."

Best served when you're not stuck in the mundane day-to-day tasks, head outside, get some vitamin D and tune into the new coming of Hevenshe.
