Devin Townsend Teams Up with Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta for 'PowerNerd'

Expect the unexpected with the great Canadian Devin Townsend. Always. Every album. Indeed, every song he releases is completely different to the last one. And his brand new rip-snorter of a track is no exception.

Cast your mind back to 2019, just for a moment. Devin releases Empath, a bombastic, although typically idiosyncratic and varied, collection of heavily layered and orchestrated prog rock and metal tracks. Then fast forward to 2022, and it’s the quirky, mostly down-tempo pop of Lightwork.

(And in between those two, you had two slightly more low-key releases, the experimental, ambient strangeness of The Puzzle and Snuggles.)

Now, he unleashes his new single, the title track to the forthcoming album, PowerNerd. In neck-snapping contrast to all of the above, the song is a flat-knacker, frenetic, almost punky rock n roll track. It rollicks along at barnstorming pace, while the man bellows his hilarious lyrics over the top.

The song is an absolute riot, and it has a video to match, a video in which he completely pisstakes the Marvel superhero genre. The track also features a guest spot from none other than Jamey Jasta from Hatebreed.

The mind fairly boggles, the mouth veritably salivates over what kick-arse delights this new album is going to bring to our rock-loving earholes, based on the first single and title track.
