The greatest black metal twosome of all time (sorry Satryricon!), Darkthrone's long and varied career has seen the Norwegians be responsible for some of the genre's most iconic albums, as well as push out into the world of crust-punk, NWOBHM - and of late - epic, doom metal.Dropping on the 26th of April via longtime label Peaceville Records, It Beckons Us All is yet another glistening jewel in Darkthrone's ever-deepening catalogue. Never touring means plenty of time for writing new music, with the band's upcoming 21st - yes, 21st - studio release falling 18 months after the excellent Astral Fortress. The pair of Nocturno Culto and Fenriz are nothing but prolific, with almost four decades of amazing riffs and songs under their belts. As for what exact musical ground It Beckons Us All will cover, Nocturno states;

"Darkthrone is an ever-evolving band, as many should know by now, and this album is touching a bit into the heavy genre. I have no idea what genre we are, and have really not cared much about it, but I know for sure it’s metal.

Aside from the teaser below, there's been no new music released for the upcoming LP - yet - so for now black metal fanatics will have to be content with drinking in the excellent album art and circling the 26th of April on their musical calendars. With a promise of further explorations of their sound and style, Darkthrone's It Beckons Us All is guaranteed to be both a fan-pleaser and one of the biggest extreme metal releases for 2024.
