Better Lovers Ravish Their Admirers In Sight And Sound With Pulsating Hit ‘Future Myopia’

As per the American Academy Of Ophthalmology “Myopia” or “Nearsightedness” is “when close-up objects look clear but distant objects are blurry”. Assuredly, many music enthusiasts have experienced this when attempting to watch live music in an array of different environments, namely an intimate club show versus the stadium or festival version. However, in the chaotic case of the delightfully dizzying havoc Better Lovers administer with their math-metalcore, especially in a live setting, myopia is more than likely experienced from anyone in any degree of close proximity to the band. So perhaps the new frantic single ‘Future Myopia’ is what the quintet is declaring their devotees will expect when they destroy stages in their town? Is that Australian tour announcement ready yet Better Lovers?

The track taken from the five-piece’s debut album Highly Irresponsible which will be released via SharpTone Records on October 25th, is another frenzied and furious composition that demands attention in the realms of sight and sound. Beginning with the foreseeable latter day mathcore madness of The Dillinger Escape Plan (sprinklings of the psychotic ‘Prancer’ are very cherished in the outfit’s amalgamation of metallic hardcore), the work of art moves through varying stages of insanity with lucid moments of melody. Enthusiasts of the ‘Lovers, DEP or Every Time I Die should be reasonably aware of what Greg Puciato (vocals), Jordan Buckley (guitar), Steve Micciche (bass), Clayton "Goose" Holyoak (drums) and Will Putney (guitar, producer) fantastically fashion with their collaboration for BL – check your eyesight though, you might not have seen this curveball coming.

A bass and percussion interlude interrupts the luminous lunacy just before the two-minute mark of the song; this boldly builds into an evil nu-metal exploration that is related to Dillinger’s ‘Parasitic Twins’, but with an insane injection of Aphex Twin and first LP era KoRn. It is unbelievably and remarkably uneasy for approximately 30 seconds, that is until a cataclysmic breakdown erupts in a startlingly severe spasm. Greg strikingly screams: “Pray to fall fast, there you’ll find fear. Then if you last, you’ll become love.

Do you dare to see and hear for long enough to find love? The world will find out October 25, 2024. Keep a close eye (and ear) on this divine dissonance.
