I don't mind a cover song, especially heavier/rockier versions of pop songs that get absolutely thrashed on commercial radio to the point where you start to like them, only to despise them in such a short amount of time. Over the past few months, a few stand out cover tracks have been released (including Fame On Fire covering The Weeknd which we reported on last weekend) so to celebrate, we've whipped up this list of 10 New Age Cover Songs That'll Tickle Your Fancy!
10 - Twelve Foot Ninja - 'Stuck With You' (Huey Lewis Cover)
The prog icons have covered Huey Lewis and given it a coronavirus/lockdown spin that'll ensure you get a few laughs and maybe appreciate the song a little more than you have!

9 - Machine Gun Kelly & Yungblud - 'Champagne Supernova' (Oasis Cover)
Covering big scale bands can be a make or break situation for most bands, especially when it's such an iconic song like 'ChampagneSupernova' BUT Machine Gun Kelly and Yungblud (in my opinion) nailed this rendition so much so I have more profound respect for both artists!

8 - Ellefson - 'Over Now' (Post Malone Cover)
Megadeth bassist David Ellefson tried his hand at covering PostMalone alongside Thom Hazaert (Vocals), Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal and AndyMartongelli (guitars) and Paolo Caridi (drums). The end result? Well, I'm not much of a Posty fan, but I dig the shit out of this!

7 - Toli Wild - 'bad guy' (Billie Eilish Cover)
There's been a few Billie Eilish covers in recent years but none from a deathcore band as good as Toli Wild who have jumped on her breakthrough hit 'bad guy'. If guttural screams get your juices flowing, you're gonna have a field day with this!

6 - Trying Times feat. Andie Case & Cole Rolland - 'Señorita' (Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello Cover)
A great mixed gender collaboration needs the exact same thing when it comes to someone covering that song and this track just worked so well. Once again, another that I appreciate more than the original!

5 - UMC feat. Steffi Stuber - 'Don't Start Now' (Dua Lipa Cover)
Dua Lipa has taken over mainstream radio and chances are you'll be hearing her song 'Don't Start Now' on a daily basis... However, you probably haven't heard this metal cover by UMC and Steffi Stuber! Give it a spin and slowly ween yourself off the pop rendition in no time...

4 - Ice Nine Kills - 'Jason's Mom' (Fountain's Of Wayne Cover)
If you take an original song and give it an update (or in this case a parody spin) then you're gonna have more eyes and ears on your work to make sure you don't fuck it up... Luckily Ice Nine Kills are great at everything they do and this Fountains of Wayne/Friday the 13th mashup slaps like a hockey puck to the genitals!

3 - Lauren Babic & Halocene - 'Face Down' (Red Jumpsuit Apparatus Cover)
Ok, so it's been YEARS since The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus were last heard on commercial radio with their song 'Face Down' but Lauren Babic (Red Handed Denial/Crazy Eighty-Eight) teamed up with Haloscene for an updated version and, well, no more words needed, just give it a listen!

2 - Leo Maracchioli - 'Beds Are Burning' (Midnight Oil Cover)
Leo Maracchioli covers ALOT of songs on YouTube, but the best thing about his covers is that the majority of them are decent metal reinterpretations of their predecessors... I bet you never thought you'd hear an incredible metal cover of Midnight Oil, but here you go!

1 - Our Last Night - 'When The Party's Over' (Billie Eilish Cover)
Now, before you jump on your high horse and say this band ONLY release covers so they shouldn't score a spot so high, this song came out at the start of 2019 and it still holds up after all of this time. The band gave it a much needed post-hardcore remake and absolutely nailed it, so much so I'll go all out and say I love this cover more than the original! There it's been said and I won't go back down.
Our Last Night do a lot of cover songs and in some cases, it can work out for bands who get traction this way. For these lads, they'd need to have some decent original songs to put into the universe too, otherwise they'll continue to be known as the band riding on the coattails of overs. However, if they produce more quality covers like this one here, I'm happy waiting a bit longer to see their own material and just jam out more to their renditions of others.
But that's just me... what do you think?
