Future Static Drop Powerful New Single 'Chemical Lobotomy'

There has been a stream of consistently good singles from Naarm/Melbourne band Future Static leading up to the release of their debut album Liminality, including ‘Roach Queen‘ and ‘The Hourglass. This steady release schedule continues today with the release of ‘Chemical Lobotomy‘, a heart-wrenching song that cemented my love for the band when I witnessed it live nearly a year ago. I’ve been keen for this song to finally see the light of day.

Amariah Cook’s enchanting vocals take centre stage early alongside the band’s unique take on metalcore instrumentals. The quieter intro allows the listener to fully engage with her words as the song gradually gets heavier. The intensity ramps into what feels like a mid-song mini breakdown, featuring brutal screams and groovy riffs. The final ‘act’ of this track hits the hardest for me, as Amariah and bassist Kira Neil share vocal duties. The dynamic between these two performers is audibly and visually stunning, particularly during the outro of ‘Chemical Lobotomy‘.

Future Static is in an incredible place right now, and this is only complimented by adding 'Chemical Lobotomy' to the beautiful collection of singles and music videos from Liminality. The future of this album is bright, and I can't wait to experience it in full on November 24th.
