DepriVation finally drop new song 'Left For Dead'

Back in my days of commercial radio, I moved to the sleepy (and fuckin' cold as fuck) town of Orange in New South Wales (40mins west of Bathurst) and I have to say one of the best things I left that town with, was the discovery of a heavy metal band called Deprivation. These guys knew how to pull a crowd and any time a heavy band would come through, they'd be the opening support and 9 times out of 10 they'd overshadow the main headliner.

Over the past few years, they've been on and off again making music and going on more hiatuses than John Farnham, but this morning they've delivered a new piece of music for metalheads to wrap their ears around.

I grabbed lead guitarist Lachlan Harrison to find out all about the new track and future of the band:

Mate the new song is heavy as fuck and one of your best tracks to date. What's the inspiration behind this one?

Left for Dead has been around for a while now, so to be honest, I can’t exactly remember the inspiration at least from an instrumental aspect. I do remember playing around with some disgusting dissonant notes so I came up with that intro riff and the rest flowed so easily from that.

The song itself is about dealing with alcoholism. I’m sure I can speak at least for Ben and myself in saying that we have had our issues with alcohol and how negatively it CAN impact your life if you allow it to take the reigns. So yeah... in short the song is heavy in more ways than one.

Complete with thrash influences, furious drumming and group vocals, it has the vibe of a Pantera/Killswitch song... Am I right or tone deaf with that analogy?

I think you’ve pretty much nailed it here mate. It’s a very straightforward song. I was actually listening to a little bit of Gojira as well at the time I wrote it.

For those who haven't discovered you yet, you've played some big metal shows across the country and even in America, why should metal fans jump on your bandwagon now?

I really hope our music sells itself, but man... we have a lot of fun doing what we do and I think it’s portrayed live and on recordings. No matter how many demons or internal battles we are facing, when you see us, we’re having a fuckin rager of a time

Is there an album on the way with this taste of new music?

Yes definitely!! For those of you who don’t know, we actually recorded an EP just before we broke up a few years ago. The recording was lost before we got to release it. So yeah... we’ll be re-doing that one and also adding a couple more fresh ones.

That’s our #1 priority at the moment

How about shows so we can finally be seeing you guys in action (either for the first time or again)

Once we finish this album, we’ll no doubt hit the road and try and get to as many places as possible

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with soon, until then check out the new track below.
