Heavy Metal is a beautiful thing that brings so many individuals, groups and strangers together for the benefit of enjoying a collective moment of appreciation when listening to songs from the greats within the genre/scene and they don't come any better than the iconic Rob Halford of Judas Priest who we sat down with just before Download Festival Sydney kicked off to chat all about their upcoming shows.

Interviewer Gareth Williams (and mad fanboy) quizzed the frontman about touring with fellow metal legends Saxon, their latest album Firepower which featured that classic Priest sound with a new twist and the more serious subject of addressing mental health as a musician, which, as we've seen in recent years, is a subject that needs to be addressed following the tragic passings of icons like Chester Bennington, Chris Cornell and more recently Keith Flint of The Prodigy.

Being a band for 50 years in 2019 is a huge achievement and Rob more than willingly shared his thoughts on what he does to keep his own demons at peace, he also opened up about his prior alcohol and drug abuse and how his life has changed for the better since becoming sober 33 years ago.

If you or anyone you know needs help with their own mental well-being call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636 or find your closest Suicide Prevention/Crisis Support Organisation on Google…
